Former Detroit City Council President Saunteel Jenkins Launches Campaign for Mayor

DETROIT, Jan. 15, 2025 ~ On Tuesday, former Detroit City Council President Saunteel Jenkins formerly announced her bid for the Detroit mayoral election set for later this year.

She joins the race following the announcement from Mayor Mike Duggan that he would not seek reelection to run as an independent candidate for governor. Jenkins was elected to the council in 2009, later leaving in 2014 to run The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW), a nonprofit that helps people pay their utility bills.
