DETROIT, Jan. 15, 2025 ~ On Wednesday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered a speech at the Detroit Auto Show, which touched upon the upcoming Donald Trump administration and the auto industry.
Whitmer gave a “road ahead” speech at the show, saying that she is willing to work with Trump, but was critical of his mass tariffs plan, saying that they could hurt Michigan‘s auto industry and the country’s relationship with Canada. “There’s been a lot of talk about tariffs,” Whitmer said. “I’m not opposed to tariffs outright, but we can’t treat them like a ‘one size fits all’ solution. And we certainly shouldn’t use them to punish our closest trading partners.“
