EAST LANSING, Feb. 8, 2025 ~ #9 Michigan State basketball (19-4) snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday afternoon at the Breslin Center, defeating Oregon (16-8) 86-74. Freshman guard Jase Richardson scored a career-high 29 points in front of his dad and former green and white star Jason Richardson during the 25th anniversary of the 2000 national championship team.

With the win, head coach Tom Izzo has now officially tied Bob Knight for first in all-time Big Ten wins with 353.

Neither redshirt freshman point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. or sophomore forward Xavier Booker played due to illness. Junior point guard Tre Holloman stepped up in place of Fears, scoring 13 points while dishing out seven assists.

In his first career start, Richardson did more than just carry the weight on the offensive side. His energy was infectious, highlighted by a huge block during a 17-2 second half run to help the Spartans dig out of a 14-point first half deficit.

(CONTINUED) Jase had a hell of a night,” Izzo told WJR Correspondent Nick Lundberg after the game. “When he got that block late, which was a hell of a block, I turned to the guys behind me including Jason and said ‘Jason who?’ It was Jase’s night and it’s exciting for him and his family.”

MSU outrebounded the Ducks 40-27, led by a game-high 12 board effort from junior forward Jaxon Kohler. He posted the second most points from any Spartan, finishing with 14 for his fifth double-double of the season.

Michigan State shot the ball very well all afternoon, converting at a 50% rate from the field while shooting 8-18 from beyond the arc.

Izzo will have a chance to break Knight’s record and stay near the top of the conference on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in East Lansing against Indiana. Coverage on 760 WJR will start at 8 p.m.
