DETROIT, Feb. 9, 2025 ~ The Philadelphia Eagles scored 40 points on the way to winning Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans against the Kansas City Chiefs, who only scored 22 points Sunday evening.

The Eagles defense recorded six sacks, bringing pressure to back-to-back Super Bowl champion quarterback Patrick Mahomes all night long. Mahomes tallied three total turnovers to go with three passing touchdowns, including an interception returned for a touchdown by rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean. He also recorded a fumble and threw another interception to linebacker Zack Baun in Eagles scoring range, in which they converted into seven points on a 12-yard touchdown to wide receiver A.J. Brown

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts won the Most Valuable Player of the game award, scoring three total touchdowns. Hurts passed for two scores to go with 221 yards, while reaching the endzone on their patented Tush-Push play. He finished with 292 total yards.

The dagger in the game came late in the third quarter from Philadephia wide receiver DeVonta Smith on a 46-yard touchdown catch to make the deficit 34 points, the most of the night.

(CONTINUED) Philadelphia only allowed a combined 49 rushing yards from four different Kansas City players, completely stifling one of the top offenses in the NFL

Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy had a strong performance, going for 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His 50-yard touchdown was the longest scored of the game.

This is the second Super Bowl the Eagles have won in the history of their franchise, getting revenge from a 2023 loss to the Chiefs. They first won in 2018 over Michigan and NFL legend Tom Brady. The Chiefs had the chance to make history and be the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, but ultimately could not get it done.

Now that the offseason is in full swing, the next big day for the Detroit Lions is Feb. 18. Beginning on this date through 4 p.m. on March 4, teams will be able to Franchise Tag players.
