EAST LANSING, Feb. 23, 2025 ~ No. 1 Michigan State hockey tied the first game of their series against No. 18 Penn State, but lost the following contest to fall to second in the Big Ten standings with just one week left in the regular season.
The Spartans and Nittany Lions came to a 2-2 draw in the first tilt, with the shoot out win going to Penn State. Junior forward Tiernan Shoudy and sophomore defenseman Maxim Štrbák recorded goals for Michigan State in the draw.
MSU ultimately fell in the second match 3-2 after taking an early 3-0 nothing deficit. Sophomore forward Tommi Männistö recorded a short-handed goal while junior forward Karsen Dorwart tallied the second score of the night.
After defeating rival Michigan in Ann Arbor over this past weekend, some MSU basketball players stopped by Munn Ice Arena to support their peers and celebrate.

(CONTINUED) No. 5 Minnesota has now jumped MSU for the top spot in the standings after sweeping their series against Ohio State. The Golden Gophers have racked up 46 points this season to the green and white’s 44.
Minnesota will hit the road this weekend to face Penn State for their final regular season games. For the Spartans to clinch the outright regular season championship for the second season consecutively, the team will need the Nittany Lions to hold Minnesota to just three points.
If they hold to just three, the Spartans will have a chance to claim the title with a sweep of Notre Dame on the road. Puck drop for the first game of the series is listed for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28
