MICHIGAN, Feb. 26, 2025 ~ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer had a simple message to a Michigan state representative who wants to overturn same-sex marriage: “Hell no.”
On Tuesday, Rep. Josh Schriver (R-Oxford) joined eight other states by introducing a resolution asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn its Obergefell v. Hodges decision that legalized same-sex marriage. The resolution, which is not legally binding and is unlikely to pass, received strong pushback from Whitmer in a Facebook video.

(CONTINUED) Opposition to same-sex marriage does not align with public polling on the issue. A 2014 Gallup poll found that 69% of U.S. citizens approve of same-sex marriages being recognized by law, and the Public Religion Research Institute found that Michigan voters approve of same-sex marriages with similar results.
