TROY, MI, March 12, 2025 ~ On Tuesday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced charges against four employees of the Oxford Center, including its CEO, over the death of 5-year-old Thomas Cooper.

Cooper was killed in a hyperbaric chamber fire at the company’s Troy location, which Nessel said was preventable if those charged followed the required safety protocols. Oxford Center CEO Tamela Peterson, Safety Manager Jeffrey Mosteller, and primary management assistant Gary Marken were charged with second-degree murder and alternative charges of involuntary manslaughter, meaning a jury will decide which charges should apply to the defendants. A fourth employee, Aleta Moffitt, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and recording false medical data over her role in operating the chamber when the chamber erupted into flames.
