EAST LANSING, March 14, 2025 ~ Michigan State basketball, ranked as the overall number one seed in the Big Ten Tournament, took down the No. 8 seed Oregon 74-64 in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Spartans shot 47% from 3-point range on 15 attempts in the second win of the season over the Ducks

Freshman guard Jase Richardson led all green and white scorers once again with 17 points in the team’s eighth straight victory, hitting on three baskets from beyond the arc. Senior guard Jaden Akins followed with 12 points and two steals.

Two other MSU players reached double figures in redshirt freshman point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. and sophomore forward Coen Carr. Fears recorded 11 points and five assists while Carr tallied 10 points and eight rebounds. Carr’s eight rebounds were the difference between the two teams, as MSU outrebounded Oregon 36-29.

Nine of the 10 players that checked in the game for Michigan State reached the scoring column.

(CONTINUED) The Spartans defense held the Ducks to just a 21% shooting rate from 3-point range, while forcing 15 turnovers and scoring just as many points off those mistakes. Oregon sophomore guard Jackson Shelstad missed all five of his attempts from deep. Senior center Nate Bittle was successful down low for Oregon though, leading the game with a 22 point, 11 rebound double-double.

MSU uncharacteristically missed 12 free throws out of 29 attempts. If this becomes a trend in the tournament, it could come back to hurt late in these win-or-go-home games.

Michigan State will face either No. 4 seed UCLA or No. 5 seed Wisconsin Saturday, March 15 in the semifinals. Coverage on 760 WJR is set to start at noon.
