DETROIT, March 24, 2025 ~ With federal funds comprising 32% of Detroit Public Schools‘ budget annually, school officials are worried about potential impending budget cuts.
Concerns among public school officials are flying after President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday to dismantle the Department of Education, including how education for low-income and disabled students. Nicholai Vitti, superintendent of Detroit Public Schools Community District, told WJR, “The fear there is that Project 2025 calls for the defunding of K12, and accelerating voucher-like programs to take federal funds to help children go to private schools.“
