MICHIGAN, March 26, 2025 ~ Border crossings from Canada into Michigan have dropped significantly amid President Donald Trump‘s more aggressive policies and statements towards the U.S.‘s northern neighbor.

Nationwide crossings are about 500,000 fewer in February 2025 from February 2024, with about 100,000 fewer crossings in Michigan, according to Bridge Michigan. Trump has engaged in tariff wars with Canada since returning to the Oval Office and has repeatedly said he wants Canada to become the U.S.’s 51st state, despite a YouGov poll finding that 77% of Canadians oppose joining the U.S.
