EAST LANSING, March 28, 2025 ~ No. 2 seed Michigan State basketball outlasted No. 6 Ole Miss 73-70 Friday night in Atlanta to move on to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. Freshman guard Jase Richardson led all Spartans in the Sweet 16 matchup with 20 points while adding six rebounds, bouncing back from an uncharacteristic performance against New Mexico.
Three other scorers for the green and white reached double figures. Sophomore forward Coen Carr tallied 15, while senior guard Jaden Akins and junior point guard Tre Holloman recorded 13 and 10 respectively.
MSU shot an efficient 50% from the field, hitting 24-48 shots. The green and white also made the most of their free throw appearances, knocking down 19-22 attempts from the stripe.

(CONTINUED) Junior center Carson Cooper made a big impact down the stretch, grabbing seven rebounds while adding six points.
After a slow start that mounted to a double digit lead in the first half, MSU used strong defense to limit the Rebels 3-point efficiency. In 27 attempts, they only managed to make nine shots from beyond the arc.
Although Ole Miss won the turnover battle 10-8, the Spartans scored 13 points off of mistakes from the Rebels.
Michigan State will play the winner of Michigan–Auburn on Sunday, March 30.
