DETROIT, April 4, 2025 ~ The Detroit Tigers (3-4) never trailed in a 7-4 win over the Chicago White Sox (2-5) on Opening Day Friday afternoon in Detroit. Left fielder and designated hitter Kerry Carpenter knocked two solo-home runs out of Comerica Park on the warmest Opening Day game in a decade. The two knocks marked the third career multi-home run game for Carpenter.

He is incredible, it’s so fun to see Kerry locked in,” manager A.J. Hinch told WJR Correspondent Nick Lundberg after the game. “We want him to take his three swings, because we know good things can happen.”

Starting pitcher Jack Flaherty had an impressive outing in his second Opening Day with the Tigers. Flaherty tallied seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched with the victory, only allowing three hits, two walks, and one earned run.

Outfielder Riley Greene also had a successful day at the plate, recording his third home run of the year to go with a single and a double. First baseman Spencer Torkelson clocked an RBI single as well, while right fielder Zach McKinstry, shortstop Trey Sweeney, and catcher Dillon Dingler also tallied RBIs. Sweeney knocked in a run off his first career triple.
