DETROIT, April 8, 2025 ~ The Detroit Tigers (7-4), led by Cy Young starting pitcher Tarik Skubal, held the New York Yankees (6-5) scoreless in a 5-0 win Tuesday afternoon at Comerica Park. After giving up seven runs in two outings this year, Skubal dominated against the reigning American League champions. The left hander tallied six strikeouts in as many innings, only allowing four hits to keep the five game winning streak intact.

Tarik has got such good stuff in his glove side fast ball,” Tigers Manager A.J. Hinch told WJR Correspondent Nick Lundberg after the game. “Everything plays off of that. But he just found a rhythm. He was able to mix his pitches on both sides. ”

First baseman Spencer Torkelson continued his hot hitting to start 2025, launching his third home run of the year in the fourth inning. Right fielder Zach McKinstry followed in the same inning with a solo shot of his own, then catcher Dillon Dingler crushed one to make it back-to-back home runs.

Left fielder Kerry Carpenter also hit one out in the fifth inning, his fourth home run of the young season.
