DETROIT, April 17, 2025 ~ The Detroit Pistons will face off against the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs Saturday night at Madison Square Garden for the first of a seven game series. The Pistons finished the regular season as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, going 3-1 during the 82-game stretch against the third seeded Knicks.
In one of the biggest breakout games of the year, All-Star point guard Cade Cunningham dropped 36 points on the road against the Knicks that sent a message to the entire league.
It has been 17 years since Detroit last won a playoff game. The Pistons had chances in 2009, 2016, and 2019, but could not get it done. The team tripled its win total from last season, becoming the first team in NBA history to accomplish the feat.

(CONTINUED) This will be the first playoff appearance for a number of players on the team. Veterans with experience such as Tobias Harris, Malik Beasley, and University of Michigan Alumni Tim Hardaway Jr. will need to step up in a big way.
Rising star Jaden Ivey has begun running with the team after tearing his left fibula on New Years Day. The shooting guard has a chance to make a comeback to the floor if the Pistons advance to the next round. With Ivey back, opposing teams will have their hands full.
The first game of the series is set to tip-off Saturday, April 19 at 6 p.m. Stay with WJR.com for more playoff coverage.
