MICHIGAN, April 21, 2025 ~ Amid rising tensions between the U.S. and Canada, Michigan tourism bureaus are cancelling advertisements inside its international neighbor’s borders.
The tensions are arising due to President Donald Trump‘s trade wars and open push for Canada to become part of the United States, an idea that is unpopular with the vast majority of Canadians. According to a report from Crain’s Detroit Business, border crossings in March 2025 were down 10.2% in Detroit by 12%, in Sault Ste. Marie by 34%, and in Port Huron by 5.9%, as compared to March 2024.
