WARREN, MI, April 23, 2025 ~ Department of Education cuts could affect Michigan summer learning programs this year, during a time when the state is struggling with literacy and math rates.

This does not sound good,” said John Bernia, Superintendent of Warren Consolidated Schools. “I’ve been a fan of a lot of what DOGE is doing (with) cuts and waste, especially in fraud, which I think is crucial that we put a stop to that. But we’re finding that saving money does have consequences, and Michigan is not in a place currently where we can afford to lose summer learning programs.”
