Now standing six stories tall and increasingly resembling design drawings unveiled a year ago, a new extended-stay hotel is taking shape at the northeast corner of Huron and Ashley streets in downtown Ann Arbor.
Construction is moving along fairly smoothly and the project is on pace to finish this fall, said Darren McKinnon, a vice president for First Martin Corp.
The Ann Arbor-based developer is now targeting an October opening for the 110-room Residence Inn by Marriott, which will be the first new hotel built in the downtown in years.
“There is a significant amount of work yet to be completed,” McKinnon said. “The construction team from O’Neal Construction and their subcontractors are doing an excellent job and they are working hard to meet the schedule.”
The hotel is rising where crews demolished a Greyhound bus depot and the old Ann Arbor Area Convention and Visitors Bureau building last summer. MORE
