Another Vendor Steals From DPS

A new fraud charge involving Detroit Public Schools has resulted in a guilty plea by a school vendor.

Theodore Pride III admitted to stealing “at least $684,000” by submitting fraudulent invoices to the district “for tutorial services that were never delivered” according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Pride’s case is the latest in more than a dozen cases in which a DPS vendor and school officials pleaded guilty to stealing from the district with kickbacks and phony invoices.
Guilty pleas led to prison terms for 12 former principals, an assistant superintendent and school vendor Norman Shy, who paid $1 million in kickbacks to get contracts for supplies that often were not sent to the schools.
Sentencing for Pride is scheduled for April.
