Complex Energy Bills Pass In Lansing

download-lansding

Energy bills reached final passage in the state legislature.
Gov. Snyder was behind a compromise on controversial parts of the bills. He will sign them.

Big issues that emerged are a renewable energy mandate and what to do with 10 percent of the market that’s currently a free-market system where alternative suppliers can provide electricity at cheaper rates.
The Senate passed a version of the bill last month that retained 10 percent electric choice and required 15 percent of the state’s total load to come from renewable sources by 2021. The House-passed package was tweaked that brought the bills widespread support. The Detroit News reports advocates of the free market said the Senate-passed bills killed choice through regulatory requirements that could squeeze alternative electric suppliers out of business. Gov. Rick Snyder worked with utilities and the House and Senate to come to a compromise that appeased choice advocates.
