Two Livonia Schools To Close

livonia-sklus

It’s a familiar scene, played out in many school districts. Falling enrollment, school closings, parent protests. It happened at the Livonia school board meeting last night. The district board, facing steadily falling enrollment, voted 5 to 2 to close Garfield and Cass Elementary schools next fall.

Board trustees told a jammed meeting it was the hardest decision they’ve had to make.

They blamed a declining enrollment of 1,500 students since 2011 and the under utilization of school buildings.

Students from Garfield and Cass Elementary schools with attend other schools starting next fall.

The move will save the district $800,000 a year.
