Personal information of 1.9 million Michigan residents at risk.

The social security numbers of nearly 1.9 million Michigan residents may have been compromised according to state officials.

The problem occurred during a software update last fall.  The issue make personal information available to human resource personnel and employers who use the Michigan Data Automated System.  The information was not available to the general public.

Speaking to Guy Gordon, Dave Murray the spokesman for the Department of Talent and Economic Development for Michigan said as soon as the ‘back door’ was discovered it was closed and the state is working to identify who had access to the information.
