Coleman Young Jr. To Run For Mayor

Will there be another Coleman Young as mayor of Detroit?
Coleman Young Jr., son of former Detroit mayor Coleman Young, announced he plans to run for mayor.

Young is a state senator from Detroit who faces term limits.
His father, the first African American mayor of Detroit, served from 1973 to 1993.

Young says he will challenge incumbent Mayor Mike Duggan, who announced his re-election bid earlier this month.

The mayoral primary is in August. Coleman Young Jr. changed his name a number of years ago. His birth name was Joel Loving. His mother is Annivery Calvert, a girlfriend of the late mayor. It wasn’t to the public that Young had a son until Loving was 6 years old.
