Sterling Heights Mosque Controversy

Sterling Heights city council is expected to address the controversy over a mosque. The city faces lawsuits by the Islamic American Community Center and the U.S. Justice Department that stem from the council rejecting a zoning change to allow for the building of the mosque near 15 Mile and Ryan Road. The lawsuits may be settled. The council would have to give the final okay. Residents nearby have opposed the mosque. The lawsuits charge discrimination against Muslims. The city denies it. The council meets tonight.
