Big Royal Oak Project Coming

Plans for a big new development at 13 Mile and Woodward, the old Northwood Shopping Center, are expected to be okayed next week by the Royal Oak City Commission. The owner of the property, Beaumont Health System, is demolishing the shopping center and plans a mid-rise hotel, new stores and restaurants as well as new apartments, for a total investment of about $33 million, according to the city. Beaumont has told Royal Oak that groundbreaking will take place this summer, and the project is expected to be finished in 2018. Beaumont has owned the property at 13 Mile, Woodward, and Coolidge since the 1980’s.
