Macomb county officials say the heavy rain of the last two days has not triggered the dumping of any raw sewage into the Clinton River from the collapsed sewer line. However officials are warning of a large, looming problem. Clogs from baby wipes. It’s called “ragging” in the sewer lines.
The wipes are often labeled as flushable. But the wipes become like ropes, choking the motors that pump water and sewage, and clogging the lines.
The county workers have to clean out the sewer screens every hour to avoid sewage backups.
