Charges In Alleged Peanut Allergy Hazing

A Central Michigan University student has been charged after accusations that he smeared peanut butter on the face of a student with a peanut allergy while the student was passed out in a hazing.

20 year old Dale Merza of Rochester Hills has been charged with misdemeanor hazing and could get up to 93 days in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
The incident happened at Alpha Chi Rho, an-off campus fraternity that was banned from recognition for hazing incidents.
The student’s mother said the incident occurred last October but it wasn’t until March that he told his family what happened.
CMU officials say the college is investigating for potential violations of the student code of conduct.
The student with the peanut allergy has transferred out of Central.
Merza’s lawyer says Merza is innocent.
