State Senator Due In Court

State Senator Bert Johnson says he will fight a federal indictment which accuses him of hiring and paying an employee on his senate payroll … an employee who never worked for him.

The 43 year old Democrat from Highland Park allegedly used the scheme to pay off a loan that he owed the so-called ghost employee.

Authorities say that non-employee was paid more than 23-thousand dollars between march of 2014 and January of 2015.

Johnson is due in Detroit Federal Court today and his attorney says he will plead not guilty.
