Detroit Police Officer Shot, In Critical Condition

A Detroit police officer is in critical condition after he was shot in the back of the head last night. The gunman was shot and killed. According to Police Chief Craig,
two officers responded to reports of gunfire and a domestic violence incident involving a man assaulting his girlfriend at Joy Road and Wyoming.

Police say a gunman unrelated to the incident opened the door and started shooting, .

The wounded officer and his partner returned fire, killing the suspect. The wounded officer is at Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn. He is said to be a 14 year veteran of the force.

According to Craig, this is the eighth officer who was shot or hurt in the line of duty in the last year.

In September 2016, Detroit Police Sgt. Kenneth Steil was shot while chasing a suspect. He died from medical complications a few days later.

Detroit Police Officer Myron Jarrett died after getting struck by a vehicle during a chase in October.

In November, Wayne State University Police Officer Collin Rose was shot and killed by a man on a bike.
