Car Sales Slump Continues

Automakers were glad to see April go away.  The industry saw a significant sales decline.

The biggest automakers—- GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda— all had sales declines. GM slipped nearly 6-percent. Ford 7-percent. Fiat-Chrysler 6-percent. Toyota 4-percent. Honda, Nissan, Mazda, all down. The downturn, compared to April last year, is the 4th straight monthly decline for U-S sales, and the largest. It’s the longest losing streak since the Great Recession. Especially hard hit— passenger car deliveries, down double-digits. Strong sales of crossovers, trucks, and SUV’s could not offset car sales. The annual selling rate is now coming in under 17-million vehicles after 3 years of record vehicle sales.
