From Firehouse To Hotel

For years it housed the headquarters of the Detroit Fire Department.
This month, it will begin housing visitors to the city.

The 5-story building that housed the fire department across from Cobo Center has been renovated and is now a 100-room hotel.

It’s part of a project by hotel owners to redevelop downtown buildings in recent years in order to offer more upscale rooms for guests attending the annual auto show, conventions and other events downtown.

The new Detroit Foundation Hotel didn’t set an official date for its opening, but is now taking reservations for as early as May 12th.

The hotel will offer 300 square foot rooms with rates starting at about 200-dollars.

It will also offer suites and rooms with a view of the Detroit River.
