Advocates of legalizing recreational marijuana will quickly begin collecting signatures needed to send the bills to lawmakers and maybe voters.
The Board of State Canvassers approved the petitions. The pro-pot ballot committee must gather about 252,000 valid voter signatures within a six-month period to submit the bills to the Republican-led Legislature. If the lawmakers refuse to vote on it, marijuana would be on a statewide ballot in November 2018.
A new ballot committee, Keep Pot out of Neighborhoods and Schools, has emerged to oppose the drive.
