The first day of Detroit Lions mandatory mini-camp was interrupted by an intruder. More than halfway into the practice on the new outdoor fields, the intruder walked towards the fields and shouted obscenities at the Lions coaches and players.

He was quickly escorted off the field by Lions media relations and security.

The intruder yelled about linebacker Tahir Whitehead, saying “Yo No. 59, I know you need me at linebacker.” He was also heard claiming to invent the sport of football, and shouted different racial comments as he was escorted down the fire lane towards the parking lot.

Lions owner Martha Ford was at today’s practice, but was more than one hundred yards away from the intruder on the other side of the field. Nobody was harmed in the incident, and Lions spokesman Bill Keenist declined further comment, other than saying the man was escorted off the premises.

Allen Park declined to comment when contacted by WJR’s Chris Renwick.
