Cong. John Conyers of Detroit is under investigation for possible ethics violations.
The nature of the allegations against the 88-year-old Democrat are not disclosed. The House Ethics Committee says it will announce a next step on Aug. 9.
The statement is the first public acknowledgment of the investigation of Conyers.
“As the Ethics Committee stated, today’s press release does not indicate that any violation has occurred,” a Conyers spokeswoman said in a statement.
Conyers is the longest-serving current member of Congress.
