Pay To Play For Pot

They wanted to go into the medical marijuana business.
Now, three Dearborn Heights men face federal charges of trying to bribe some Garden City officials to open a medical marijuana dispensary and grow operation.

Mike Baydoun, Ali Baydoun, and Jalal Baydoun are charged with various counts of bribery.

Under Garden City ordinances, only two medical marijuana growing centers are allowed. Two already are in business.

According to the indictment, the Baydouns tried to bribe the mayor of Garden City, the police chief, and three council members. Part of the agreement, according to the charges, had part of the profits to be paid monthly in exchange for the license to operate.

The indictment says the Baydouns delivered an envelope containing $15,000 cash to a Garden City official last December.

And, according to the indictment, the Baydouns agreed to place $150,000 in an escrow account to show their intent to pay additional bribes.
