Duggan Vs Young For Detroit Mayor

Detroit mayor Mike Duggan was the biggest vote getter in the primary race. Duggan got 69 percent of the vote. Coleman Young the 2nd was a distant second. They will face off in the fall.

Councilman George Cushingberry lost in his bid to gain a final spot in the November election. Roy McCallister Jr. was the top vote getter in the council District 2. McCallister will face Virgil Smith the 3rd, the former lawmaker who vacated his state senate seat because of a felony conviction.

Incumbents were the wide leaders in the other races.

In the Detroit city clerk race,
incumbent Janice Winfrey with 51 percent of the votes.
Garlin Gilchrist is the 2nd place winner, and Gilchrist has 19 percent. Hester Wheeler, is 3rd . Winfrey will be challenged by Garlin Gilchrist, who is a hi-tech aide in the Duggan administration. He’s been an activist for Move On dot org.

In a state house primary, District 1, where the incumbent Brian Banks stepped down because of a felony conviction, Tenisha Yancey is the leading vote getter in the Democratic primary, and she will be the heavy favorite to take over the seat in this heavily Democratic district. Mark Corcoran won the Republican primary.
