Public Nuisance Closes, Leaves Homeless

Some 400 Detroit-area residents scrambling to find new places to live.

They lived at the Royal Inn on 8 Mile in Royal Oak Township.

Oakland County Health officials ordered the motel shut down last week.

Residents were told they had to be out by today.

Health officials said the building was unfit for human habitation.

Police were not unhappy with the move.

They say the motel had been a high-crime area dealing in drugs and prostitution.
