A former nurse at the Martha T. Berry Medical Care Facility in Mount Clemens is scheduled to be sentenced today on her conviction for stealing morphine.
A Macomb County Circuit Court jury convicted 55 year old Karen Spearman on July 28th after deliberating for less than an hour.
During the trial, a nurse who had come on duty following Spearman’s shift testified that she had found three bottles of morphine with holes in the caps.
Tests revealed that two of the bottles had been diluted.
Spearman, who is from Rockford, was a temporary employee hired through a staffing agency.
Prosecutors say they couldn’t explain the woman’s actions.
She could face up to at least four years in prison.
