Canada has given main permits for a new privately-funded bridge to the owners of the Ambassador Bridge.
The Maroun family has been trying to build a twin span since 20-04.
Mathew Maroun says they plan to build the new one near the old one.
Gov. Snyder’s office says the owners still have to get final approvals from the U-S.
Work will go ahead on the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which will be jointly owned by Canada and the U-S.
Canada’s approval has a major string attached: the dismantling of the old Ambassador Bridge. Maroun indicates they will cross that bridge later.
