Ex-Principal Goes To Prison

A former Detroit public school principal convicted in a kickback scheme is scheduled to report to prison today.

Josette Buendia was convicted of taking more than 45-thousand dollars in bribes from millionaire school vendor Norman Shy.

The 52 year old Garden City resident was the only one of the 13 Detroit school officials charged in the corruption case who didn’t cut a deal with prosecutors.

She went to trial in December, but was found guilty of the charges against her and sentenced to two years in prison.

She is appealing her conviction and asked to remain free on bail.

Last week, a federal appeals court denied her bond request and ordered her to report today to begin serving her term.

The school corruption case last year landed all of the accused behind bars.

The stiffest sentence went to Shy who got 5 years.
