50 year old Brad Haynie of Harrison Township is scheduled to be sentenced today after being convicted in Macomb County Circuit Court of assaulting his 77 year old mother.
He is facing up to ten years in prison for that 2015 attack that left the woman with broken facial bones and a fractured vertebrae.
Patricia Haynie said her son snapped while he was making dinner and attacked her because he thought she was possessed by the devil.
In a police interview, Haynie said he doesn’t remember attacking his mother.
Prosecutors say the attack wasn’t about the devil, but about alcoholic rage.
They called him a stone-cold alcoholic who lost control of his actions.
Haynie admitted he drank a fifth of liquor the day of the attack, but said it didn’t affect him.
