Court Boss On The Other Side Of The Law

A former Ypsilanti District Court Administrator is due in court today for a preliminary exam on embezzlement charges.

Prosecutors have charged 61 year old Kathryn Collins with three counts of embezzlement.

A Michigan State Police detective said she took thousands of dollars that had been earmarked to pay tickets.

Officials say they learned of the situation when a man had been contacted by the court because he hadn’t paid a fine.

The man then provided a money order as proof that he had paid the fine.

This led to an audit which discovered some 73-hundred dollars was missing.

Authorities say Collins was accepting payments for tickets, depositing the payment, but then taking that same amount of money out of a cash till.

The charges against her are ten year felonies.
