Ontario GM Plant Hit By Strike

The GM plant where the Chevy Equinox is built is idle. Canadian auto workers are on strike at the plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. Workers say they’re unhappy that GM has cut jobs and is sending some of the work to Mexico.

The union, Unifor, was seeking a formal commitment from GM that Equinox production would remain at Ingersoll and that it would be chosen as the lead plant for the vehicle.

GM announced earlier this year that it would shift production of the GMC version of the compact crossover, the Terrain, to Mexico. Terrain production ended this summer and GM eliminated 600 jobs.
