Ballyhooed No-Fault Reforms Slog Thru Lansing Hopper

An effort to drive down auto insurance rates in Michigan is currently in a legislative limbo.
A proposal before the House Insurance Committee would end a longtime mandate on unlimited medical coverage in auto insurance policies.

Michigan is the only state in the nation to require unlimited lifetime coverage for catastrophic crash victims.

The new legislation would allow motorists to choose from 3 different levels of personal injury protection.

Supporters say it would lower rates.

Critics say it would lead to caps on medical provider charges.

Committee Chair Lana Theis of Brighton asked members to submit any potential amendments to the measure this week before she decides what to do next.
