High Court Hears Brutal Murder Case Against Teen

The Michigan Supreme Court is today to hear arguments in a seven year old murder case.

It was a case that shocked the small community of Yale, Michigan.

Tia Skinner was accused of planning the stabbing attacks on her parents.

Her father was killed and her mother critically injured.

Skinner was just shy of her 18th birthday at the time of that 2010 attack and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Two 18 year old co-defendants, Jonathan Kurtz and James Preston, received identical sentences.

Skinner’s life sentence was brought into question when the U-S Supreme Court ruled that automatic mandatory life sentences for juveniles are unconstitutional.

The state supreme court today will also hear arguments on whether the decision to sentence a juvenile offender to life in prison must be made by a judge or a jury.
