White Nationalist Presses U-M To Speak

The University of Michigan is facing a requested deadline on whether to allow a self-described white nationalist to speak on campus.

Lawyers for Richard Spencer want an answer by Friday.

The organization, the National Policy Institute, filed a request for speaking space at the U of M on October 27th.

Several campus organizations came out against letting Spencer speak.

The school has not made a decision on the request, but officials said it is still being considered.

Supporters of Spencer accused the university of bowing to pressure and ignoring the first amendment right of free speech.

Earlier this year, they tried to get space to speak at Michigan State.

The university turned down the request.

Spencer’s group has filed a federal lawsuit to have that decision overturned.
