Conyers Backtracks On Harrassment Charges

Rep. John Conyers office now says, yes, the congressman paid a settlement to an employee who accused Conyers of sexual harrassment. BuzzFeed reports Conyers paid more than $27,000 in 2015 from his office funds. The House Ethics Committee opened an investigation.
Another former staff employee of Conyers’ hired in 2015 filed a lawsuit against him in federal court in Washington, D.C. this year alleging harassment. But the employee dropped the lawsuit.
Conyers office denies the allegations, saying the settlement was to avoid protracted litigation.

Conyers, 88, has served as a Democratic congressman from Detroit since 1965.
