Groundbreaking Scheduled For Tallest Skyscraper

Friday will be an historic day for Detroit.
Friday will be the groundbreaking for Detroit’s tallest building, on the site of the former Hudson’s store.
Businessman Dan Gilbert and Mayor Duggan will be there. Paul W. Smith wil be the emcee.

The project will build an 800 foot tall office and residential tower, taller than the Renaissance Center.
It’ll be built by Bedrock, which is a Gilbert venture.
It will take at least three years to build.

Who will occupy the building remains undecided. The J-L Hudson’s store closed in 1984. It was demolished in 1994. The city operates an underground parking garage on the site.
