John Conyers Steps Down

John Conyers 53 year run as a congressman is over. Conyers is giving up his seat effective today.

Conyers made the announcement with broadcaster Mildred Gaddis, one of his supporters.
Conyers is caught up in a sexual misconduct scandal.
Conyers says he is endorsing his son, John Conyers the 3rd, to replace him in Congress.

Conyers made his announcement on the phone. His lawyer said Conyers was in a hospital bed.

Conyers steps down from his seat representing the 13th Michigan congressional district. Conyers began in congress in 1965.
The only elections he lost was challenging Coleman Young for mayor. He lost both times.
