Prosecutor Fights Finding In Cop Shooting Cases

A court hearing has been scheduled for today on a motion from the Wayne County Prosecutors Office in a case involving a Detroit man accused in the murder of a Wayne State University police officer and the non-fatal wounding of two Detroit police officers.

60 year old Raymond Durham was charged with the murder of Wayne State police officer Colin Rose in November of last year and wounding the 2 Detroit police officers four months later.

Doctors at the Forensic Center in Ypsilanti examined him and found him incompetent to stand trial in both cases, but said he could be restored to competency with continued treatments.

36 District Court Judge Kenneth King then set another competency hearing for February.

But prosecutors asked the judge to allow them to have an independent doctor exam Durham.

The judge said it was an unusual request, but agreed to allow prosecutors to argue their motion at a hearing today.
