A Macomb County community is facing the new year with the possibility that the state will appoint an emergency manager to oversee its fiscal affairs.
The city of Fraser has a 14 million dollar operating budget for the new year.
But it is looking at only 12 million dollars in revenues.
The city council has been looking for ways to cut spending.
8 police officers have been laid off.
The city’s activity center has been closed and senior citizen services discontinued.
Summer activities for youth have also been put on hold.
A 3-mill increase was turned down by voters in November.
City manager Wayne O’Neal says, if the problems aren’t corrected, he expects the city will be broke in 18 months.
